Spicy Turnip Fries
I love spicy food and I also love turnip, so this combo was a no brainer for me. These fries really hit the spot and are a wonderful twist on the original French fry. The spicy kick from the seasoning really compliments the turnips flavour and they are a great side to add to any meal. If you are a little lower on the spicy loving scale and like it but can't handle too much heat, I would suggest using just 1/2 the chipotle powder that's recommended. I also love to pair these with some homemade ranch dip for a quick and yummy snack!
Ingredients:
1 tsp chipotle powder*
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp sea salt
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 medium sized turnip
* If you do not love extra spice I would use 1/2 tsp instead of a whole tsp of the chipotle powder.
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Peel your turnip and cut into 1/2" by 3" pieces (fry like shapes.)
3. In a large bowl toss the turnip in the olive oil and sprinkle on the chipotle, garlic, paprika and sea salt. Stir until each piece is well covered.
4. Place the turnip pieces on the baking sheet, leaving space between each piece so they are not touching. Put them in the oven.
5. Bake for 40mins or until the fries start to get crispy on the outside edges. At the halfway mark (20mins) you will want to flip the fries using tongs.
6. Once cooked, remove from the oven, serve and enjoy!
